Tsunami Housing Projects


Centre for Human Development (CFHD). While having a close coordination with the district NGO consortiums. Has taken a decision to rehabilitate affected communities in two villages namely naasivantheeu village in baticolo district and raalkuli village in trincomalee district. both village cares are coming under the existing development intervention of the centre for human development (CFHD).


In a short period of two years (year 2005 to 2007) CFHD plans to address the basic problems of these affected families in a priority basis. CFHD does not intend to undertake activities that are to be build by the government. It will engage with other civil society organizations to influence government to attend to those. among the activities that are to be fulfilled will be housing including toilets, drinking water, educational materials, opportunities and support for finding livelihood and addressing trauma.

Goal
Tsunami affected communities in three villages achieved sustainable living

Objectives

  • to provide with permanent housing with water and sanitation facilities for homeless
  • to facilitate continues school education for the children
  • to facilitate preventive health education in a friendly environment.
  • to take measures for sustainable livelihood under the coordination of a community based organization (CBO)


Outputs

  • two villages where Tsunami affected families settled
  • Children continued primary, secondary and higher education
  • Established health care system
  • families acquired knowledge and skills for sustainable living
  • Established community based organization (CBO) with a seed credit fund.
