1. Reconciliation, Peace and Development in the North East

The Centre for Human Development (CfHD) has been implementing the Peace and Development Program in the four districts of the North and East provinces of Sri Lanka from the year 2000. the program has been funded by The Development Fund, Norway and Helvetas Sri Lanka. The program aims to promote greater understanding and cooperation between ethnic groups with the ultimate goal of reconciliation and has two key strategies:
   

To address basic human needs in terms of adequate food provision, income generation for war affected communities and, to build confidence to achieve stability for non-violent peace processes.

To coordinate the organizations and individuals working for the same course at divisional district and provincial level and invoke pressure on the parties involved for non-violent solution.

2. Operation One Day Work:

The program covers four districts in the North and East Province (NEP): Ampara, Batticoloa, Trincomalee and Vavuniya in areas where the Centre for Human Development already operates. The program has been implementing from the year 2004.

The project aims to restore rights to education to war affected youth between 16 and 22 years old in North and East Provinces. The target group of this projects are youth who have not received enough education and are either too old or too far behind to benefit from mainstream education. The youth will be facilitated to receive alternative education and training that are geared towards employment and self-reliance. Youth who suffer from war trauma will receive specific psychosocial support to integrate to mainstream society better. The program is designed such that it can meet the different education and/or training requirements of this diverse group of people.

3. Community Development and Livelihood Improvement project/Gemidiriya and Poverty Reduction Program Coordination with Ministry of Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation

The CfHD has newly started a Community Development and Livelihood Improvement Program under the Ministry of Samurdi and Poverty Alleviation of Government of Sri Lanka. The program has been implementing in 2 districts namely; Rathnapura and Badulla covering 5 DSDs.
The main aim of the program is to facilitate and provide handholding support to the village communities for sensitizing and mobilizing them to develop into village community organization and to build their capacities to formulate plan and implement village development activities themselves.

The Community development and Livelihood program, Ministry of Samurdhi and poverty alleviation is going to implement the poverty reduction program around 21 districts of Sri Lanka through a GO (RDTRI) and selected two National level Non governmental organizations; CfHD and PIDA. CfHD has become a member of board and among the implementing bodies in the program in which CfHD is taking the leading role.

The main activities of the program is to provide 3 months training in Social Mobilisation and administration training to 26000 staff members of samurdhi thereby enhancing their skill for the effective implementation of the program

4. Water & Sanitation Program

The Water and Sanitation program has been implementing with the financial support of World Bank and ADB. Its program area covers 5 districts namely; Kegalle, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Kurunegala and Gampaha.
The major activity of the program is to facilitate the communities with the sustainable drinking water facilities, watershed management, facilitate the communities at different stages thereby formation of CBOs, capacity building of it and handing over the program to the user groups/communities so that user groups themselves can run the program.

5. Fredskorpset Exchange Program/Partnership for Ecological South Asia

CfHD has been implementing Fredskorpset Exchange program, a project on Partnership for Ecological South Asia (PESA) under the funding support of Norwegian Govt. The project has been running from the year 2004. Under this project, two of the CfHD staffs are being engaging in PESA program in India and Nepal sharing knowledge and experiences promoting sustainable agriculture. And the two volunteers from Nepal have been practicing Agricultural technologies sharing knowledge and experiences both way with CfHD.
The project aims at creating a partnership for an ecological South Asia to develop new thoughts on ecological system and co-existence through exchange of volunteers and for cross-cultural learning and networking. For this it has set the objective as to develop a common vision and ecological management of resources through documentation and dissemination of best practices. Six organisations from Three countries viz. Nepal, India and Sri Lanka, as a partner of the project, are sharing a common benefit in agriculture, with an emphasis on natural resources management, sustainable food production, biodiversity, m a r g i n a l l a n d management and local p e o p l e ’ s user rights & community development.

6. Rehabilitation of Tsunami Victims in the North East of Sri Lanka

CfHD has been supporting the tsunami affected school children with the school uniforms, reading materials, etc in its program areas in the North East of Sri Lanka. And very soon, it is going to start rehabilitation program for the tsunami victims in the same areas. The major objectives of the program are;

To provide with permanent housing with water and sanitation facilities for homeless
facilitate continuous school education for children
To facilitate preventive health education in a friendly environment
To take measures for sustainable livelihood under the coordination a community based organization (CBO)

7. SANFEC Program
A South Asian Network called SANFEC mainly promoting Ecological Agriculture, seed & plant conservation, resource conservation, research in ecological agriculture related areas, participatory video production and advocacy on issues which are related to farmer rights. CfHD is an active member in the network. Under this network implementation with the Partnership of 5 Local Organisations.
There are 5 ongoing projects reserches under farmer in participating Video Production by involving rural women and taking part in disscussiong South Asian Economic and Social issue.
